Who my lessons are for

All welcome, whether it's your first time behind the wheel or your first time in years.

New learners

Just got your Ls? We start with the basics on quiet streets and build up your confidence and skills from there.

Nervous drivers

If driving makes you anxious, we go at a pace that suits you. Nerves are normal and nothing to be embarrassed about.

Getting back on the road

Haven't driven for a while, or new to Hills roads? Book a lesson or two to feel comfortable again.

Getting test-ready

Practising the manoeuvres and habits you'll be assessed on, so you know what to expect on the day.

Your instructor

Meet Nicky, your instructor

Nicky is a licensed South Australian driving instructor and the person behind Wings. She taught both of her children to drive before making it her job, so she knows what it's like for parents to hand over the keys and trust someone else to teach their child. Lessons are calm, supportive and planned around each learner.

Nicky has also worked as a Registered Nurse for more than 25 years, much of it teaching students. She moved to SA from the UK in 2014 and lives in the Hills with her family and several mini dogs who give her the run around.

Where we teach

Lessons around Mount Barker and the Hills

We teach in and around Mount Barker, Littlehampton, Nairne, Hahndorf and Woodside, plus suburbs within about 10 km of each, including Blakiston, Totness, Wistow, Brukunga, Balhannah, Oakbank, Echunga and Lobethal.

We practise on the roads you'll actually drive: Mount Barker's roundabouts, narrow Hills roads, 25 km/h school zones and the South Eastern Freeway.

The SA driving test is changing in 2027

From the first half of 2027, government examiners will run practical driving tests in government cars, replacing both the VORT and the CBT&A logbook method. Until then, nothing changes for current learners.

Common questions

Can you pick me up from school or work?

Yes. We can pick you up and drop you off at home, school or work anywhere in my service area. Just add the address when you book.

What days do you teach?

Lessons currently run Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Every free time shows in the booking calendar, up to 30 days ahead.

How many lessons will I need?

There's no set number. It depends on how much driving you do between lessons and how confident you feel. After your first lesson I'll give you an honest idea of where you're at and what to work on.

Do lessons with an instructor count for more logbook hours?

Yes. Under current SA rules, your first 5 hours with a licensed instructor can be logged as 15 hours towards the 75 supervised hours you need for your Ps.
